Data Network Errors
Submitted by chris on May 25, 2006 - 2:33pm.
Most commonly if people are having problems with EQO Mobile it's because they are getting "Data Network Error". The usual culprit here is that users don’t have a properly configured GPRS data internet connection on their phone. Most people are confused by this as they can almost always access the internet, but they are likely doing so via a WAP connection. WAP allows you to use mobile browser, but it does not provide the pure data connection that EQO Mobile requires. The EQO support forums are littered with examples of how you can add or edit a GPRS access point on your phone. Depending on your phone type, the information may not be here. Email us, support@eqo.com, for instructions if you need help with your specific phone type. You may also need to specifically allow EQO to use your GPRS access point and you can usually do this via your phone settings, look for “Manager” or “App Manager” on your phone. http://www.voq.com/site/downloads/GPRSSettings.htm http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html http://www.reqwireless.com/apns.html As for the access point settings themselves, unfortunately every carrier has its own. The above websites list GPRS settings for various different countries and carriers, if you can not find your carrier on the list then check out your carrier’s website or search the web. You will definitely find the required access point (sometimes called APN) settings if you look hard enough. If you still can’t manage to get connected, then post in the forums or email me. I’ll help you out as soon as I can! Please feel free to post your country/carrier GPRS settings here for others and how to check/set GRPS settings on your specific phone type. Thanks a lot. This makes me think we should probably add Bite Plius as a Latvian carrier. I'll get that done soon, thanks a lot. But don't get your hopes up, this won't solve any of your problems:) Chris taht would be nice... sinceSubmitted by qep on August 9, 2006 - 12:32pm.

I've added them to our list of supported carriers. There was no reason we couldn't have supported them before, we just needed to update our list. Besides that, there isn't much to do:) Chris Nokia E70, Ukraine, KyivstarSubmitted by tmsam on October 13, 2006 - 2:51am.
I'm using default Kyivstar GPRS settings, also tried to use automatic settings from Nokia site, but alas! Error msg keeps going. Any suggestions? RE: Nokia E70, Ukraine, KyivstarSubmitted by chris on October 13, 2006 - 8:41am.
Our logs show that you have connected on your mobile, is this the case or are you stil having problems? What is the exact text of the error you see? Are you sure you are using the right internet connection when you start EQO Mobile? Chris E70, ukraineSubmitted by tmsam on October 17, 2006 - 1:50am.
It somehow connected after numerous tries. RE: E70, ukraineSubmitted by chris on October 17, 2006 - 8:40am.
Hmmm, that's a shame. I can see that you can connect so thee are no barriers or obstacles in terms of your settings and our servers. Are there places you get better service than others? Maybe try there. Chris data network error on blackberry 8700CSubmitted by racker1 on October 22, 2006 - 8:24am.

Glad to hear it worked, could you possibly please share your settings with your Cingular compatriot who posted just before you? It would help me help others in the future as well. Chris RE: data network error on blackberry 8700CSubmitted by chris on October 23, 2006 - 9:24am.
Well, from the post just after yours I can gather that EQO Mobile does work on the 8700C with Cingular. What type of data plan do you have? Are you on ISP.Cingular or MediaNet? Chris Unable to connectSubmitted by racker1 on October 23, 2006 - 11:56am.
Hey Chris, Im on the full BB data plan from cingular -ISP. but im not using the BB browswer just the internet browser (the blackberrys come with 3... blackberry i use the internet browser - this is the one that let me download eqo - plus go to any website full or mobile. saw the post about the mistyped password so i rechecked mine and still no luck. Thanks, Racker1 RE: Unable to connectSubmitted by chris on October 23, 2006 - 2:41pm.
Are you behind a BES? If so, unblock port 8585 if you can. Also, please confirm your Cingular TCP/IP settings with this post: net-msn-chat-web-telnet-tcpip-no-bes.html... Chris Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by albanetz on October 31, 2006 - 3:18am.
I keep having the same Data network error problem with MTS BY carrier in Belarus. All the rest GPRS Internet based software in my phone works fine with the settings that I have: both the built-in browser and the Opera Mini, as well as the built-in email client and the JIMM -- java-based ICQ client. What is the problem with EQO then? Here are the GPRS settings: Main Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Data comm. > Data accounts > mts-internet > More > Account info: Naame: mts-internet Main Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings for Java > mts-internet > More > Settings: Connect using: mts-internet RE: Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by chris on October 31, 2006 - 9:11am.
EQO Mobile requires a TCP connection and those other applications connect via http. You can see that your Internet Mode is set to HTTP, try changing that to TCP or to GPRS, whatever options are there. You can use the link below to setup your connection for your carrier on your K750: 1_1_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10415... If this doesn't work you'll have to setup your connection manually, which is a bit annoying but I can help you do it. Chris RE: Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by albanetz on October 31, 2006 - 10:54am.
Chris, the link you gave me is to setup CSD WAP which is not even GPRS. The SonyEricsson site unfortunately doesn't give any info on how to setup GPRS for mobile carriers in Belarus. The thing you have pointed out about the settings that I quoted is not correct: the only two options in that particular field are WAP and HTTP, so you cannot choose anything like TCP or GPRS, and I suspect this is not the cause of my problems anyway. Let's do the manual setup if you are really sure you know how to do it. RE: RE: Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by chris on November 1, 2006 - 9:07am.
Yes, I know that is a WAP setup page, but often they send the GPRS settings too. If yous till haven't tried, I suggest you go ahead because you have nothing to lose in trying. As for that Java setting, I'd never seen that before but EQO can't use use an HTTP connection. Anyway, I'm quite sure how to setup GPRS on Sony Ericsson phones as I've done it many times. Go into your connection settings and into "Data Communications"->"Data Accounts". Create a new Data Account or edit an existing one, call is MTS, set APN to internet.mts.by, set user name to mts, and set password to mts. Now go into "Internet Profiles" and go into the settings for your default internet profile. Set this profile to use the data account you just created/edited. If this doesn't work, contact your carrier and ask them to enable you and set you up for GPRS. Chris RE: RE: Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by albanetz on November 1, 2006 - 2:08pm.
Chris, I have just found another guy in my town who has an identical phone (SonyEricsson K750i) and uses the same carrier (MTS BY). We cross-checked the settings in our phones, and they were IDENTICAL. And, they fully comply with what you have written in your last post, as well as fully correspond to the instructions I received from the MTS BY in return for the request to help me configure my GPRS correctly for the Java programs to work over GPRS. But EQO Mobile works on that guy's Sony Ericsson K750i, and doesn't work on mine! The only difference between us is that he has two phones, a Nokia (I don't remember the model) and a SonyEricsson K750i, and when he signed up for EQO he put that Nokia in his profile, so the .jar file he received from EQO was for Nokia. But he put it both into the Nokia and into the SonyEricsson, and it works fine on both. So I suspect that in this case the problem is in the .jar files that I have downloaded from the links EQO had sent me. They just don't work. What do you think? RE: RE: RE: Data network error on MTS BYSubmitted by chris on November 1, 2006 - 2:39pm.
That is strange and I can't rule out this problem from being our fault. What is this other guy's EQO ID and what type of Nokia phone does he have? If you are interested in testing, change your phone model to the Nokia model of your friend and try. We have a K750 here and all is well. It could be that he has newer firmware than you. You could try updating your firmware. Go to the Belarus Sony Ericsson Support site and find the Sony Ericsson update service. Also, are you sure MTS enabled you for GPRS data service? You can have the settings right, but they must let you through. Chris |
