Nokia 5500 is a Cool Phone

I have been using the Nokia 5500 Sport for about 2 months now. I have to admit, this phone looks rather dull and ordinary but it is a pretty cool mobile device. The Nokia 5500 is a Series 60 Third Edition Symbian phone (check out the phone specs here). Unlike other earlier Series 60 phones, Nokia got it right this time around with the Third Edition for third party applications developers. While applications written in J2ME for this phone is not as seamless as those written natively in Symbian, it comes reasonably close. For the majority of J2ME applications, there is plenty of CPU and memory resources on the Nokia 5500 to deliver a decent user experience. Other capabilities such as support for JSR75 PIM makes the Nokia 5500 a very developer friendly mobile device. On the down side, the Nokia 5500 screen size is very small compared to other phones in the Nokia Series 60 family. In fact, the 5500 is the smallest Series 60-based Nokia phone in the market. One can only appreciate this small screen for lighter weight and the water resistent cover is for outdoors fanatics. The water resistent cover also make it a bit more difficult to get the feel of the keypad. But on the plus side, the phone is very light with a very high resolution screen, and the phone is designed to sustain physical abuse. Overall, the Nokia 5500 is a pretty cool phone.
